John McCain has gleefully pounded Barack Obama in recent days for having traveled to Iraq only once since he entered Congress. But his arguments virtually mirror those used in a new attack ad by an independent conservative group, adding to the perception that there is a coordinated effort between McCain and the outside groups that his campaign has sought distance from.

McCain’s Naval Career Hints At Outcome of Commander-in-Chief Role

John Sidney McCain III entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1954. Young McCain wanted to become an admiral. He planned to be the “first son and grandson of four star admirals” to achieve such a distinction. But that was not to be. McCain III possessed none of the innate character and discipline traits that helped mold his father and grandfather into great military leaders.

A Change of Heart?

Once upon a time, not all Republicans loved John McCain. One, cited in a 2001 New York Times story, was a fellow Arizona resident named Jack Londen.

”I’m so disappointed that John McCain was elected as a Reagan Republican but is acting like some kind of Democrat,” Londen was quoted as saying. ”He fell in love with seeing his name in headlines with the Eastern liberal press.”

And what is Londen doing tonight? Opening his Phoenix-area home to McCain for a fundraiser headlined by President Bush.

We’ve seen the exit polls. We’ve read the unequivocal quotes. Many women who are avowed Hillary Clinton supporters are declaring they won’t vote for Barack Obama in the fall.

I get the anger and the disappointment. But to quote SNL’s Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers: Really? You’d rather vote for John McCain, a man who has a 25-year history of voting against a woman’s right to choose? A man who over the last eight years that NARAL has released a pro-choice scorecard has received a 0 percent rating (in his time in office, Obama has received a 100 percent rating)? A man whose campaign website says he believes Roe v. Wade “must be overturned”? A man who has vowed that, as president, he will be “a loyal and unswerving friend of the right to life movement”?
